A Message from Melinda
I hope that you are all preparing for a fun and relaxing summer! While you may have some time off to spend with family and friends, why not spend some time volunteering, too? JFS has many exciting group, family, and individual volunteer opportunities, even if you only have a few hours to spare.
In the month of April, 590 volunteers donated 5,436 hours to JFS, making a huge impact on the people we serve. We couldn’t do it without you!

Volunteer Spotlight
On the Go Rides & Smiles® volunteer Leslie Beach was recognized at the 3rd
Annual Hats Off To Volunteers event in Rancho Bernardo on April 21.
Leslie has been a valued volunteer driver since August 2010 and has
provided more than 2,200 rides, donating over 2,000 hours of service to
JFS! Thank you, Leslie, for your service and dedication!

Join our On the Go volunteer team and help us
reach our goal of 100 new volunteers by the end of 2012. All new
volunteers—and those who recruit their friends—will receive a coupon for
a complimentary car wash.
How does it work? Rides are provided
by volunteers who donate their time to provide this valuable service.
Volunteers use a convenient, web-based scheduling system to determine
who, when, and where they drive. There is no minimum number of rides to
provide. You’ll be a part of the largest volunteer-based transportation
service in San Diego County—providing more than 1,500 rides by more than
250 volunteer drivers each month!
Below are
the upcoming volunteer trainings to be held at JFS Turk Family Center,
located at 8804 Balboa Ave., San Diego 92123. Pre-registration is
required. Contact Rachelle Minteer at (858) 637-3042 or rachellem@jfssd.org to reserve your spot today!

Food drives can be organized in your neighborhood, school, synagogue, or place of business. We’ll give you everything you need to be successful! We provide goodies like electronic flyers and collection barrels, as well as help to transport the food you collect. Contact Josh Cohen, Food Drive & Distribution Specialist, at (858) 637-3356 or joshco@jfssd.org for more information.
“Thank you for your food distribution. If it weren’t for you, I would go days without eating. God will surely bless your service. Thank you so much.” Hand Up Youth Food Pantry client

Start Something Big! Become a Big Pal
Being a Big Pal means just being you. Simply add the company of a Little Pal into all the things you normally enjoy doing—hanging out at the beach, going for a walk, cooking, watching movies, or shooting hoops. Little Pals are Jewish children from single parent and non-traditional families. By spending a few hours, twice a month, with your Little Pal, you can set them up for success in school and in life by modeling good choices and being a positive role model. Help them develop self-esteem, Jewish identity, and lasting relationships that could change their perspective on the world—and make a big impact on their life. And you never know—your Little Pal might change your life, too.
There are 15 children ready and waiting to be matched with a Big Pal in San Diego right now. Please attend one of our info sessions, give us a call, or visit us online to find out how you can help make a difference in the life of a child. Complete a Big Pal application>>
Upcoming Information Session July 11 • 6:00–7:00pm Milton's Restaurant Delicatessen • 2660 Via de la Valle • Del Mar 92014 Register Online or call (858) 637-3371
