Michael Hopkins was officially installed as Chief Executive Officer of Jewish Family Service by the Board of Directors at their monthly meeting on January 24, 2012. Retiring CEO Jill Borg Spitzer will continue her connection to the JFS family as a consultant, helping to facilitate the transition with the many programs, services, and community relationships.

"We considered many extraordinary candidates during the search for our agency’s new CEO. Michael comes to us with tremendous credentials,” said Felicia Mandelbaum, President of the Board of Directors.

Michael has devoted more than 30 years to building and strengthening the Jewish community, with a majority of his professional career directing and growing Jewish Community Centers across the country. Most recently, he was Executive Director of Nehirim, a national Jewish LGBT organization. Prior to that, he served as the CEO of Jewish Community Center Metrowest, one of the largest JCCs in the country with an $18 million annual budget and more than 200 employees. During his tenure with JCC Metrowest, Michael led a $23 million building expansion and renovation, and launched the nation’s first Jewish Health and Healing Center at a JCC. Michael previously served as the Executive Director of the JCC of Richmond, VA and has worked at JCCs in Tucson, Columbus, and Pittsburgh. Michael earned his MSW from the Yeshiva University Wurzweiler School of Social Work.

Michael was selected following an extremely diligent national search by the CEO Search Committee, chaired by JFS Board Members Loretta Adams and Ron Zollman. Michael’s qualifications, experience, skills, and character are an ideal fit to successfully lead Jewish Family Service into the next stage of our development.

“All of us at Jewish Family Service are excited by the vision, expertise, and compassion that Michael will bring to the Agency,” said Felicia Mandelbaum. “My thanks to the community for your continued belief in our mission and your ongoing support during our transition.”

Jill Borg Spitzer will be honored for her 26 years of extraordinary accomplishments, inspiring leadership, and communal service at the Heart & Soul Gala – A Legacy of Service on March 3, 2012. Learn more at www.jfssd.org/gala.
