How do we know our impact?

All of Jewish Family Service’s programs and services are grounded in evidence-based and best practices research, with the goals of moving families toward self-sufficiency, supporting aging with dignity, and fostering community connections. Our Community Impacts Division is dedicated to developing an infrastructure and support system for measuring impact at all levels of the organization. The Community Impacts Division is focused on:

  • Working with program staff to establish measurable program outcomes;
  • Producing reports related to client and program progress;
  • Building performance management tools;
  • Educating and training staff on ETOi software and reporting;
  • And providing management and program staff with accurate and meaningful data to promote informed decision making.

Measuring our Impact

JFS uses the Efforts to Outcomes – Impact (ETOi) software and database to collect client and service data, allowing us to:

  • Monitor and evaluate program outcomes;
  • Assess impact;
  • Ensure high quality, reliable data;
  • And use data to inform decisions, monitor performance, and improve service.

JFS employs a multi-level evaluation approach, and using a variety of methods to inform program evaluation. We use logic models to ensure alignment with the JFS framework, guide our services, and ensure that our program resources and efforts link to measurable goals and outcomes. Collaborations with local academic partners will allow us to conduct more targeted, in-depth evaluations of specific services.

For more information, contact Sara Schwartz, ETOi Database and Training Manager, at (858) 637-3255 or saras@jfssd.org.

Self-Sufficiency

The Self-Sufficiency Matrix is the primary assessment tool used to measure change over time. All programs collect data on a specified number of Self-Sufficiency domains, allowing us to look at progress on a client level, service level and agency level. JFS tracks the following indicators of client self-sufficiency across all programs which provide relevant services:

  • Food
  • Housing
  • Income – Self-Sufficiency Standard
  • Transportation
  • Employment
  • Health Care Coverage
  • Adult Education
  • Child Care/Elder Care
  • Parenting Skills
  • Family/Social Relations
  • Safety
  • Substance Abuse
  • Physical Health
  • Mental Health
  • Legal (non-criminal)
  • Life Skills
  • Credit History
  • Community Involvement/Connection
