On behalf of Jewish Family Service, we thank you for sharing in the success of the 2010 Heart & Soul Gala. This year’s theme, Touching Hearts, Changing Lives, celebrated the extraordinary accomplishments of our 2010 Mitzvah Award Honorees. Alberta and Charles Feurzeig, Felicia Mandelbaum, and Michael London, all worked tirelessly to fulfill our highest ideals—compassion, communal responsibility, and the preciousness of every human life.
Your generosity enabled us to set records in attendance and money raised, with over 620 guests contributing more than $880,000 to the vital programs of Jewish Family Service.
This year, with the current economic crisis, we served more people than ever before in our history. With your help, our programs will continue to stretch and adapt to meet the growing needs of our community.

Alberta and Charles Feurzeig
JFS Economic Crisis Response Program
 For more than three decades, the Feurzeigs have been instrumental in creating a strong and compassionate community. When the effects of the worst economic crisis in generations hit, Alberta and Charles came to JFS and said they wanted to do more for those in need. Because of their generosity, JFS was able to expand services to help the many people experiencing extreme hardship in our community, including many families who’ve never before needed assistance.
Felicia Mandelbaum
Heart & Soul Gala
 As a lifelong community builder with a generosity of spirit that weaves people together, Felicia has been a “super volunteer,” generously contributing to almost every critical JFS function. From serving lunch to the elderly, to serving on the Board, to founding and chairing the Heart & Soul Gala, Felicia exhibits an unending commitment to JFS. As incoming JFS Board President, she is dedicated to developing the next generation of leaders to continue her legacy.
Michael London
Run for the Hungry
 From his days as a linebacker for the San Diego Chargers, Michael has been committed to making a positive contribution to the community. As the visionary founder of the Thanksgiving Run for the Hungry, Michael has created a tradition that raises awareness to the plight of San Diego’s hungry, a growing problem in these difficult times. In the last eight years, under Michael’s leadership, the Run has involved thousands of participants in raising vital funds for JFS hunger programs.
