After much consideration, JFS is stepping down as co-organizer of Run for the Hungry. We are incredibly thankful to those who have volunteered and participated in the run over the last decade, and hope you will consider staying involved in our ongoing efforts to fight hunger in San Diego.
Helping San Diegans access to nutritious food remains a vital part of what we do. We will continue to offer food assistance through a variety of touchpoints, including our onsite Corner Market, community food distributions, Foodmobile, and Social & Wellness Centers for older adults. Together, these services provide the equivalent of more than 337,000 meals each year. [In case you are wondering about the math, this includes 258,000 meals distributed via Hand Up and 79,000 distributed via Senior Nutrition]
Our food assistance programs are also some of our most volunteer intensive—and we could always use more help! From delivering a meal to sorting donations in our Hand Up food pantry, you can make a difference with just a few hours a month. To find a volunteer opportunity that speaks to you, visit www.jfssd.org/volunteer or call Volunteer Engagement at (858) 637-3050.
Our partner, the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank, will continue to host the Run for the Hungry on Thanksgiving Day. For more information about the race, please visit www.sdrunforthehungry.org or call (858) 527-1419 for more details.
