Thousands of caring San Diego County Residents lace up their running and walking shoes each Thanksgiving morning and head downtown for the annual United Run for the Hungry 5K/10K Run/Walk. This run/walk continues to grow each year because of its great mix of ingredients: an awesome course starting at Horton Plaza and traveling through the Gaslamp and East Village, fun entertainment, tasty refreshments, and the cause. The event plays an important role in providing food for thousands of hungry families in our community. Be a part of the action on Thanksgiving and show San Diego's hungry you care.

The Cause
Run for the HungryMost of us think of the hungry as being the homeless people we see on the streets, but the problem extends far beyond that. Right here in San Diego, 1 in 4 children and 1 in 5 adults struggle with hunger. There are days when a parent has to skip eating in order to feed their child. There are families that have to stretch two days’ worth of food into five, just to make it through the week. There are people who are hungry all day at school and work, because they can’t afford food.

Who Does it Benefit?
Proceeds from the event directly benefit the hungry in San Diego County through Jewish Family Service's Food Assistance programs—Foodmobile, Hunger Advocacy Network, Hand Up Youth Food Pantry, and Hand Up Teen Leadership—and the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank. United Run for the Hungry helps these vital programs feed the many hungry families in San Diego who are affected by the current economic crisis and the many unseen families who face hunger on an ongoing basis.

The Route
United Run for the Hungry is a 5K/10K run/walk through downtown, starting at the Westfield Horton Plaza Shopping Center and through San Diego’s historic Gaslamp District and East Village.
