Run for the Hungry Logo
Thousands of caring San Diego County Residents don their running and walking shoes each Thanksgiving morning and head downtown for the annual Run for the Hungry 5K/10K Run/Walk. This run/walk continues to grow each year because of its great mix of ingredients: an awesome course starting at Petco Park and traveling through the Gaslamp and East Village, fun entertainment, tasty refreshments, and the cause. The event plays an important role in providing food for thousands of hungry families in our community. Be a part of the action on Thanksgiving and show San Diego's hungry you care.

The Cause
Most of us think of the hungry as being the homeless people we see on the streets, but the problem extends far beyond that. The current economic crisis is affecting thousands of residents of San Diego-- individuals and families who haveRun for the Hungry Starting Line never before faced hunger. Every day, thousands of unseen San Diego County residents go hungry. For example: Darren and Cindy, a young couple, both working at low paying jobs and struggling to make ends meet; Jim, a World War II veteran, barely making it on Social Security; and Sandy, a single parent trying to feed her three children on a minimum wage salary. These are the people we don’t see; the people who desperately need our assistance.

Who Does it Benefit?
Proceeds from the event directly benefit the hungry in San Diego County through Jewish Family Service's Foodmobile and the San Diego Food Bank. Run for the Hungry helps these vital programs feed the many hungry families in San Diego who are affected by the current economic crisis and the many unseen families who face hunger on an ongoing basis.

The Route
Run for the Hungry is a 5K/10K run/walk through downtown, starting at Petco Park and through San Diego’s historic Gaslamp District and East Village.
