Being a parent is one of the greatest gifts. But being a parent on your own can have its challenges. Raising children, working, maintaining the household, cooking dinner, and paying bills may be overwhelming. It may seem impossible at times for your family to stay connected to the Jewish community. We understand. We're here to help.

Supporting Jewish Single Parents Program actively welcomes and connects Jewish single parents and their children to the Jewish community. Through information and referral, networking, support and advocacy, we help promote Jewish continuity and offer services that enhance a feeling of belonging and inclusion.

Mother and daughter playingIn 2002, San Diego women came together to form the Jewish Women’s Foundation of San Diego (JWF). Their purpose is to support the Jewish community through innovative and creative funding to benefit and enhance the lives primarily of Jewish women and girls, locally and globally. Guided by Jewish values, JWF creates awareness of the issues and needs of Jewish women and girls. Through the work of the Foundation, women are empowered as funders, decision makers and agents for change in the community.

In 2004, JWF conceived, established, and funded their first grant to create the Supporting Jewish Single Parents program (SJSP) coordinated by Jewish Family Service. After research and focus groups within the community, the program was created to actively welcome and connect Jewish single parents and their children to the San Diego Jewish community. Through information and referrals, networking, support, and advocacy, the program helps promote Jewish continuity and offers services that enhance a feeling of belonging and inclusion.
