How We Help Jewish Family Service is one of the oldest and most respected counseling centers in San Diego. Our professional staff includes licensed clinical social workers, psychologists, and consulting psychiatrists who have received special training in the diagnosis and treatment of mood disorders. We offer both individual and group therapy. We also offer family therapy, as mood disorders often affect entire families, not just the person suffering. All sessions are strictly confidential and fees are based on a sliding scale. We offer a safe, supportive environment to come for help. At Jewish Family Service we know that mood disorders are not a stigma, but mental illnesses that need treatment.

Mood Disorder Jewish Support Group
We offer a support group for people who are dealing with depression, bi-polar disorder or anxiety. The group provides an opportunity to meet with other individuals facing the same issues and to learn new ways to cope with what can be difficult and persistent challenges. About Bipolar Disorder Bipolar disorder, or manic depression, is the most dramatic of the mood disorders. People who suffer from bipolar disorder tend to experience extreme mood swings, ranging from manic episodes, depressive episodes, or a combination of both.
Symptoms of Bipolar Disorder:
- A high level of energy
- Impulsive or reckless behavior
- Excessive moodiness and irritability
- Increased depression
- Feelings of hopelessness or pessimism
- Decreased need for sleep and/or sleeping too much
- Grandiose delusions, inflated sense of self-importance
- Increased physical and mental activity
- Racing speech
- Decreased energy, a feeling of fatigue or of being "slowed down"
- Difficulty concentrating, remembering, making decisions
- Change in appetite and/or unintended weight loss or gain
- Chronic pain or other persistent bodily symptoms that are not caused by physical illness or injury
- Thoughts of death or suicide, or suicide attempts

About Depression Clinical depression reflects a sad and/or irritable mood, exceeding normal sadness or grief. Depression can affect the nervous system, leading to a change in body functions such as crying spells, low energy, body aches, and changes in eating and sleeping patterns. Depression isn't just a temporary mood, and it's not a sign of personal weakness. It's a serious medical condition with a variety of symptoms.
