Support & Psychotherapy Groups

You don’t have to do it alone.

If you’re going through a major transition or difficult life event, you don't have to do it alone. Join one of our support groups and gain insight, motivation, and encouragement. Groups provide an opportunity to be with others who are in a similar situation. You can make connections, share feedback, and get advice. Groups offer emotional comfort and moral support.

We offer professionally facilitated support groups to address many different issues. Group times and locations vary. Advanced registration is required for all support groups by calling (877) 537-1818.

Aging Well Group

College Avenue Center
Thursdays • 1:00−2:30pm

Aging Well GroupHave you experienced a recent difficult life event or transition? Have you been feeling sad or anxious? Are you experiencing feelings of grief or loss?

Aging well means taking care of oneself on many levels. It includes keeping the mind active, creating and preserving emotional health, and maintaining energy and a positive outlook. Jewish Family Service, in cooperation with the Kaiser Foundation, is pleased to offer a new support group for older adults experiencing symptoms of depression, anxiety, and social isolation. Join others experiencing similar issues in a supportive, caring community to discuss:

  • Building and sustaining a healthy lifestyle
  • Bringing meaning and purpose back into life
  • Dealing with negative thoughts and emotions
  • Enhancing relationships

By participating in this group, you’ll build social connections, learn specific ways to manage symptoms of depression and anxiety, and discover tools for coping with stress and strong emotions. Fees are based on a sliding scale; Medicare and most insurance are accepted. An initial screening interview is required. For more information, call JFS at (877) 537-1818.

Alcoholism is a family disease. The disease affects all who have a relationship with a problem drinker. Friends and family members of problem drinkers are invited to share their experiences and learn how to apply the principles of the Al-Anon program to their individual situations. Participants will learn they are not alone in the problems they face, and that they have choices that lead to greater peace of mind, whether the drinker continues to drink or not. Click here or call the San Diego County Al-Anon Information Office at (619) 296-2666 for more information.
