Aging & Wellness Services

Bereavement Services - JFS has a number of resources available to help with many of the decisions faced by families and friends after the death of a loved one.

Bikkur Holim Friendly Visitor - Friendly volunteers bring joy, conversation, community connection, and friendship to isolated Jewish older adults and homebound/ill individuals.

Brain Fitness - The Brain Fitness Program is an innovative cognitive fitness program for older adults currently being implemented at leading retirement communities across the country, including Jewish Family Service Older Adult Centers.

Couple

Creating Opportunities for Older Persons (CO-OP) - We bring social programming and activities to residents in naturally occurring retirement communities.

Foodmobile - Our dedicated volunteers deliver hot nutritious kosher meals to isolated older adults and younger homebound disabled adults.

Geriatric Care Management - Our professional care managers are experts in the field of aging. They help manage the growing and complex demands and responsibilities of caring for you or your loved one.

JFS Fix-It Service - Dedicated volunteers provide home safety modifications and minor home repairs for older adults age 60 and over.

On the Go - On the Go provides group and individual transportation solutions for older adults to necessary medical and personal appointments, community events, Social & Wellness Centers, shopping centers, organized excursions, and more.

Social & Wellness Centers (College Avenue Center and Balboa Avenue Older Adults Center) - Our Social & Wellness Centers provide a fun location to exercise your mind, body, and spirit through a variety of social, recreational, and educational programming.

Case Management

counseling_mainBreast Cancer Case Management - Our Breast Cancer Case Manager, funded by Susan G. Komen for the Cure, is dedicated to offering specialized assistance and support during the difficult and overwhelming period after receiving a breast cancer diagnosis. The case manager works with each client in their own home or community, based on individual needs.

Crisis, Medical & Psychiatric Case Management - Our Case Managers work with Jewish individuals and families who come to our program with an array of needs.

Employment & Career Services - Assists clients with obtaining the necessary tools for a successful job search. Services include educational workshops, personalized job search assistance, resume writing, and networking opportunities. Additional services for Jewish clients.

Hand Up Food Pantry - Distributes food throughout San Diego County with a case manager on site to provide necessary referrals and resources for clients with additional needs.

Intensive Psychiatric Case Management - Our Psychiatric Case Management programs are dedicated to helping Jewish mentally-ill individuals live independently, socialize, and manage the symptoms of their illness.

Project SARAH Case Management – Provides crisis intervention, crucial resources, and supportive services to individuals and families impacted by domestic violence.

Behavioral Health Awareness - Our Behavioral Health Committee of dedicated volunteers is committed to educating the community about mental illness and decreasing the stigma associated with it.

Counseling - We’re here to help you sort out the problem areas in your life. And to help you find the energy and strength to solve them. Our professional counselors will help you through the tough times.

JFS Hand Up Loan Program - We offer several interest-free loans to members of the Jewish community to be used for small business and personal needs.

counseling young african american coupleMood Disorder - One out of every 14 Americans suffers from a mood disorder. And many of them don’t come forward to seek help. Our counselors are specially trained in working with mood disorders and offer both individual and group therapy.

Patient Advocacy - Patient Advocates work with individuals living in either a 24-hour psychiatric hospital or a Board and Care facility to ensure all of their rights are being respected.

Project SARAH - There’s never an excuse for domestic abuse. We offer a safe, confidential place for individuals experiencing abuse to come forward and seek help.

Support & Psychotherapy Groups - Support groups offer a certain emotional comfort and moral support that individual therapy can’t do. We offer several support groups throughout San Diego County.

Hand Up Teen Leadership - This nationally-recognized program offers high school students an opportunity to learn about social change while making a measurable impact on the community. Teens receive leadership development training and run food distributions, coordinate food drives and fundraisers, organize advocacy and education activities, and plan special events that support the Hand Up Food Pantry.

David Rubenstein Memorial Scholarship Fund (Formerly the Rubenstein Family Scholarship Program) - Scholarships are available for post-secondary education to qualified students who are residents of the San Diego Jewish community.

Serving Older Holocaust Survivors (SOS) - We are dedicated to ensuring our community’s Holocaust survivors spend their older adult years living in safe, happy, and healthy environments.

Supporting Jewish Single Parents (SJSP) - By providing support, advocacy, and social activities, we’re dedicated to ensuring Jewish single parents and their families stay connected to the Jewish community.

Positive Parenting Program - Free parent education seminars and groups throughout San Diego County available to families and caregivers at Head Start sites, military families with young children, Elementary Schools and other community sites.

Supporting Jewish Single Parents (SJSP) - By providing support, advocacy, and social activities, we’re dedicated to ensuring Jewish single parents and their families stay connected to the Jewish community.

Refugees & Immigration

RIS spotlight 2Citizenship & Immigration - We offer help applying for green cards or citizenship, replacing missing immigration documents, applying for work authorizations and refugee travel documents, and petitioning for family members.

Employment & Job Placement Services - JFS offers resettlement services, including employment case management and assistance, to legally-authorized individuals from around the world.

Refugee Reception and Placement - When a newly arrived refugee family arrives to the United States, we pick them up from the airport, place them in a fully furnished apartment, and immediately begin acculturation services and help them adjust to life here.

Teen Leadership

Girls Give Back - Girls Give Back Leadership RetreatWe empower the next generation of women leaders to create meaningful change in the world around them through leadership, empowerment, and service-learning while developing social-mindedness, critical thinking, healthy self-esteem, and empathy.

Hand Up Teen Leadership - This nationally-recognized program offers high school students an opportunity to learn about social change while making a measurable impact on the community. Teens receive leadership development training and run food distributions, coordinate food drives and fundraisers, organize advocacy and education activities, and plan special events that support the Hand Up Food Pantry.

Ladies Leadership Program – The Ladies Leadership Program is a weekly afterschool educational program that supports young women at Kearny High School EID who want to learn and work in the male-dominated fields of architecture, engineering and construction.

Desert Vista Permanent Supportive Housing - One of our two HUD-funded permanent supportive housing programs, providing long-term shelter and comprehensive services to 40 formerly homeless individuals with disabilities.

Desert Horizon Permanent Supportive Housing - The second of our two HUD-funded permanent supportive housing programs, providing long-term shelter and comprehensive services to 18 formerly homeless individuals with disabilities.
