Mentoring Mothers match"Carolyn was there to make me laugh, to hear me cry, to be what I needed for her to be: a friend. She’s one of the few people who treats me like a real person, who respects my choices, and makes me feel like I’m able to do anything I want to do and be anything I want to in life. Even though I’m 15 and have a baby, she never judged me or made me feel like a bad person." -Teenage Mother

Mentoring Mothers provides individual mentoring for teenage mothers who are attending high school. Volunteer mentors offer guidance, emotional support, and counsel on the benefits of completing high school and continuing education. Mentors are role models, confidants, and friends. They know the challenges of motherhood, and possess the skills and knowledge to help teens adjust to life as new parents.

Mentoring Opportunities
A Mentoring Mother is someone who has been through motherhood and is able to offer guidance. Mentors and mentees meet at least once a week for one hour throughout the year. Volunteers undergo an extensive screening process and participate in a half-day training prior to assignment. With a mentoring mother on their side, teen mothers are not alone as they adjust to life as a new mother. For more information about becoming a Mentoring Mother, call (858) 637-3050.

"I didn’t know what to expect from being a mentor, I didn’t expect a lot. Realistically, I thought I’d be one part-time person in her life. I’m happy I gave it a chance and was given the gift of such a dear person in my life who is a joy to watch grow." - Mentoring Mother
