Volunteers are the Heart of JFS

Volunteers - Embrace a Family

Volunteers are the heart and soul of Jewish Family Service—an essential reason why we can be One Source for a Lifetime of Help. Through their tremendous commitment and dedication, our volunteers exemplify the spirit of tikkun olam, or repairing the world.

We have more than 30 volunteer opportunities at Jewish Family Service. Volunteers play an integral role in mentoring children; visiting the ill and elderly; delivering meals to homebound older adults and younger disabled adults; driving older adults to and from medical appointments; completing minor home repairs for older adults; working at older adult centers and offices; helping a newly arrived refugee family; helping individuals re-enter the workforce; providing agency clients with Passover and Thanksgiving packages and holiday gifts; and much more.

You can help make a difference in the life of someone who needs you. For more information, contact Volunteer Engagement at (858) 637-3042 or volunteer@jfssd.org.

Service Enterprise CertifiedJewish Family Service is excited to announce that we have been certified as a "Service Enterprise" after completing the Points of Light Service Enterprise Initiative!

This prestigious certification means that JFS is recognized as a leading organization in volunteer engagement and leverages our volunteers’ skills, talents, and resources strategically and thoughtfully at all levels of the agency. Only 15% of organizations nationwide receive this certification. What does this mean for JFS? It means we can do more to serve our community!

More than 1,000 volunteers support the work of JFS each year. Last year, we graciously received nearly 62,000 hours of donated time from our volunteer work force – providing the hourly equivalent of 30+ full-time staff members. But it’s more than just hours – our volunteers donate skills, manpower, innovation, and soul to our work. With volunteer contributions at all levels, we are able to go further and smarter with our work. Volunteers are the heart of JFS and we hope this certification will motivate others to be a part of our growing team. We are committed to service, talent, and community engagement. Be a part of our team today!
