Volunteers needed for VITA Tax Preparation
As a tax preparation volunteer you will provide invaluable assistance to
low-income individuals and families by preparing their taxes for free and
connecting them with other Jewish Family Service (JFS) resources when
will work one-on-one with clients helping them to navigate the ins and outs of
tax preparation. If chosen as a volunteer, our partner, the IRC will provide
you with training that results in your certification as a volunteer income tax
preparer. This training involves a self-directed online curriculum combined
with two days of mandatory classroom training at the IRC office. NO
PREVIOUS TAX EXPERIENCE NECESSARY! This is an excellent opportunity to gain
skills in tax preparation while providing invaluable help to families and
individuals in need of your expertise. JFS is teaming up with IRC to offer a third
VITA program location, and we need volunteers at all three sites!

As the number of older San Diegans continues to climb, we are experiencing an urgent need for volunteers who can help them age in the homes and communities they call home. From delivering meals, to making minor home repairs, to driving for people who can’t – you can make a difference in the life of a Holocaust survivor, veteran, or elderly neighbor who needs you.
When older adults make the tough decision to turn in their keys, it’s the volunteers of On the Go at JFS who help them hold on to their independence by getting them where they need to go. With JFS Foodmobile, volunteers deliver warm meals and wellness checks to support the health of homebound individuals who might otherwise go hungry. Then there’s the JFS Fix-It Service, which deploys a team of volunteers to make the minor home repairs that help prevent falls and keep older adults safe in their homes.
We’d love to talk to you about joining our team of volunteer drivers.

Adopt-A-Route with Foodmobile!
All across San Diego, there are people who depend on Foodmobile. When older adults can no longer get out or cook for themselves like they used to, we show up at their door with a warm meal – and stay for a moment to see how they’re doing. We’d love for you to join us!

Foodmobile: The JFS Foodmobile program has delivered warm kosher meals to San Diego’s homebound older adults and younger disabled adults for over 40 years. Volunteers are often the only visitors individuals receive and their smiles go a long way. Warm meals and warm smiles are the essence of Foodmobile. In 2011, Mayor Jerry Sanders recognized Foodmobile for its outstanding impact in the community. He declared March 25 Foodmobile Day in San Diego County.
Children & Family Activity Hub: The Children & Family Hub provides supervision and programming up to 5 evenings a week, for the children, youth and families in our Safe Parking Program. Volunteers help facilitate in guiding activities that promote a child's ability to learn and grow in a safe and supportive environment. Hub Helpers support families enrolled in the Safe Parking Program by providing the opportunity for children and youth to have up to 2 hours of supervision in a safe and fun environment. The goal is to provide an environment that is of benefit to the children, along with supporting parents with a time to have meetings, complete tasks, attend workshops, or join in structured activities with their children.
