It hasn’t always been fashion runways and hit television shows for style guru and fashion mentor, Tim Gunn. Best known as the Emmy Award winning co-host of Project Runway and most recently Amazon’s Making the Cut, he is also a New York Times bestselling author and former Chief Creative Officer for Liz Claiborne, Inc.

Early in his adolescence, he suffered from social anxiety and depression, and spent more than two years at a psychiatric hospital. “I was a very unhappy kid…but that unhappiness spiraled downward to the point where I made a very serious suicide attempt.” Tim would later credit an insightful doctor for saving his life. “That’s how we get through life—by having people whom we trust, loved ones who are important to us, and by reaching out and saying ‘I need some help’.” In a candid conversation, Tim will detail how he overcame his struggles and share his everyday lessons for making it work.

Nathan Fletcher, Supervisor

Nathan Fletcher, Supervisor of San Diego’s Fourth District, will be presented the Behavioral Health Hero Award for his demonstrated devotion to building awareness and support for those in our community facing behavioral health challenges. As Chair of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors, he is leading the effort to confront COVID-19 and ensure we build back better through the recovery. He is also focused on transforming our approach to behavioral health, making substantial investments in our mental health and drug treatment programs. His vision is to fix a fragmented system by building a patient-centered, care coordination system that ensures those in need get the right care, at the right time and most importantly get the right outcomes to improve their lives.

Your Support Makes A Difference

Proceeds from the Behavioral Health Committee’s signature event will support Jewish Family Service of San Diego’s critical relief efforts in the community. Founded in 1918, Jewish Family Service (JFS) is one of San Diego’s most impactful nonprofit agencies—providing resources and support to over 34,000 San Diegans this past year. Through integrated services, the organization empowers people of all ages, faiths, and backgrounds to overcome challenges, set goals, and build more stable, secure, and connected lives. JFS is committed to helping individuals and families in crisis move forward, while developing innovative strategies to break cycles of poverty and strengthen our San Diego community. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the agency adapted, revised and expanded its services to focus on what was needed most, including critical food assistance through a no-touch drive-thru distribution, meal delivery and self-care support for seniors, safe spaces for people living out of their vehicles, and employment services and counseling.
