Project 19 Home Delivered Meals – Volunteer Driver Opportunity

As San Diego starts to reopen, COVID-19 remains a serious health risk to seniors. Many are still sheltering in place out of necessity. Additionally, with limitations on congregate meal locations and support services jeopardized, many older adults are in critical need for healthy meals.
Every day, volunteers in our Project 19 program deliver nutritious meals to 350 older adults age 65+ across San Diego so they can remain safe. Each senior receives food for the upcoming week — 21 meals in total. Between March 16, 2020 and April 30, 2021, JFS delivered more than 1.4 million freshly-prepared and shelf-stable meals to isolated older adults.

Project 19 Home-Delivered Meals Volunteer Drivers
Volunteer Drivers provide a no-contact delivery of freshly prepared frozen meals and/or pre-packaged groceries. Using their own personal vehicles, Volunteer Drivers report to the JFS – Joan & Irwin Jacobs Campus (8804 Balboa Ave, San Diego, CA 92123) for their AM or PM shift to pick up the boxed meals or groceries, receive their route, and deliver the emergency food to the residences of older adults.
