Join Us at The Center for Jewish Care Luncheon with Rabbi Shmuly
Tuesday, November 12, 2024
Join us for the Center for Jewish Care Luncheon on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 with Rabbi Shmuly in conversation with CEO Michael Hopkins. Together, we will explore the centrality of compassion in Jewish thought and how this core value can serve as a catalyst for social transformation. Drawing from ancient texts, contemporary case studies, and his own experiences as a social activist, Rabbi Shmuly will illustrate how acts of compassion can bridge divides, heal communities, and drive systemic change.
Deepen Your Capacity for Compassion
Free Workshop, October 27, 2024 – January 5, 2025
Join Rabbi Susan Freeman from the Center for Jewish Care, and fellow members of our Jewish community, in learning skills for nurturing supportive and enriching relationships. Through seven in-person and virtual sessions, we will focus on strategies for deepening one’s capacity for compassion, self-awareness, and insight.
This learning opportunity is perfect for anyone interested in becoming a JFS Friendly Visitor, a program that matches older adults with caring volunteers who offer companionship and a steady connection to the community. Together, we can make a difference in alleviating the suffering of loneliness we are witnessing today in our own San Diego Jewish community and beyond.
This 7-session workshop takes place both in-person at the Joan & Irwin Jacobs Campus, 8804 Balboa Avenue, San Diego, CA 92123, and online via Zoom. Link will be provided upon registration.

We can tailor any of our volunteer opportunities to meet the interests and passions of teens while accommodating busy schedules. Helping others is a beautiful feeling and an important Jewish value. Let us help you find the perfect Mitzvah Project, and we’ll ensure it’s both meaningful and rewarding.
