A Rosh Hashanah Message
From the Desk of Dana Toppel, CEO
September 22, 2025

As we approach the High Holidays—a season of deep reflection and renewal—I find myself returning again to a teaching from Rabbi Simcha Bunim. He said that every person should carry two slips of paper in their pockets. One reads: “For my sake, the world was created.” The other reads: “I am but dust and ashes.”
We are asked to hold both truths at the same time: The infinite value and dignity of each human life, and the humility to know we are part of something far greater than ourselves.
This duality feels especially resonant right now. In our community, we see both fragility and strength, vulnerability and resilience, need and generosity. At Jewish Family Service, we hold these truths each day—walking alongside individuals and families as they navigate life’s hardships, while also planting seeds of hope, renewal, and possibility.
As we enter 5786, may we continue to carry both messages in our hearts and may we move forward—together—with purpose and compassion.
On behalf of all of us at JFS, I wish you and your loved ones a year of sweetness, health, and peace.
Thank you for being part of our family.

Shanah Tovah,

Dana Toppel
