When you make the tough decision to turn in your keys, our dedicated team of volunteers show up to drive you where you need to go – whether to the doctor, the grocery store, or lunch with friends. More than a ride, On the Go is about fueling the sense of connection, independence, and mobility that defines aging well.

For Adults 60+

Rides & Smiles

Individual rides to medical and personal appointments, social activities, errands, or wherever you need to go. Riders receive up to 8 rides a month—exceptions for non-emergency medical rides may be available. Rides & Smiles is the largest volunteer transportation program in San Diego. Rides must be reserved at least 7 days in advance.

On-demand transportation anywhere in San Diego County using car-sharing services like Uber and Lyft. We monitor the ride in real time, making sure everything goes smoothly from pickup to drop-off. Perfect when you need a ride, but don’t have the 7-day advance notice needed for Rides & Smiles. We can schedule a ride with as little as 30 minutes’ notice!

  • 8:00am – 4:00pm, Monday – Friday
  • Riders must be 60 or older and be registered with On the Go
  • Pricing includes the cost of the ride, plus a $6.00 service fee
  • Credit card required
  • 30-minute minimum advance notice required

Shuttle Service & Group Shuttles

Shuttles to JFS’s Social & Wellness Centers, as well as shopping, cultural events, and religious services including to areas synagogues during the High Holidays. Customized group transportation is available to organizations that serve older adults age 60+.

On the Go transportation services are available to individuals 60 years and older residing in San Diego County. Existing transportation must be inadequate or unavailable.

San Diego County Senior Transportation Program

Operated by On the Go at CARS

Free Service for Adults 60+ if they meet income criteria

People aged 60+ can schedule free rides through the San Diego County Senior Transportation Program.

To qualify:

  • Riders must be at least 60 years of age and be able to get in and out of car by themselves.
  • Your household income is at or below the San Diego County Area Median Income.

On the Go is a program of Charitable Adult Rides & Services (CARS), operated by JFS. Established in 2003 to help fund the programs and services of JFS, CARS soon began helping other nonprofits raise extra funds. Today, CARS is a respected leader in the car donation industry, providing additional revenue to more than 2,500 nonprofits nationwide.
