Hope & Gratitude
From the Desk of Dana Toppel, CEO

Dear JFS Community,
As we move forward into the new year together, I feel a deep sense of hope and gratitude. Hope for what is possible, and gratitude for this community that continues to show up with dedication and purpose.
During a recent conversation about the future of behavioral health services at JFS, two ideas stayed with me.
The first is to pause and reflect. To truly see the resilience of those we serve, the dedication of our staff and volunteers, and the generosity of our supporters. These moments, both big and small, remind us why our work together matters. So too do the quieter moments that restore us: a walk along the ocean, a bird singing, a shared smile. These moments of awe are gentle reminders that hope is always present.
The second is purpose. Research tells us that purpose is essential to a healthy, meaningful life both individually and collectively. I am deeply grateful to lead an organization that lives its purpose of helping people thrive so clearly. At JFS, we respond in moments of crisis, partner with people to meet their basic needs, and help to restore dignity, connection, and hope.
In the year ahead, we are moving forward with intention. We will launch our Center for Jewish Wellbeing, led by Shira Jacobs; expand support for healthy aging, behavioral health for tweens, teens, and young adults; and promote education that strengthens healthy relationships. We will continue to care for more than 500 Holocaust Survivors, ensuring their access to healthy nutrition, housing, home care, and community.
And through Nourish San Diego, a new initiative, we will expand nutrition access through home-delivered meals, dignified shopping at the Lieber’s Corner Market, and the launch of an innovative mobile choice market.
None of this happens without you.
I invite you to enter this year with hope, and by taking action through volunteering, advocating, giving, and staying connected. Together, we can turn small moments into meaningful change and our bold vision into real impact.
Thank you for being part of this community and for all the ways you help shape a more hopeful future. I look forward to all that we will accomplish together in the year ahead.
With gratitude and optimism,

Dana Toppel, LCSW, MBA
