Throughout the summer, JFS Volunteers like Stella and Michal helped deliver healthy Sweetgreen salads every week to members of our community who shop at The Corner Market or shelter in their vehicle at one of our six Safe Parking lots. The popular health food chain has donated more than 700 salads to JFS so far!
In recognition of everything you do to support our daily operations — Sweetgreen is now offering every JFS Volunteer a $5 discount promo code!
The restaurant has locations in Carlsbad, La Jolla, Del Mar, and 4S Ranch.

Daisy Garcia
Diaper Bank
Meet Daisy! She’s a sixteen-year-old who spent her summer volunteering at JFS’s Diaper Bank and turned into one of our Superstars. No surprise… Her mom, Evelyn Gutierrez, is one of the experts working behind the scenes at JFS to keep our computer systems running. Evelyn had a special reason for wanting her teenage daughter to volunteer at JFS. Find out why it turned out better than either of them expected!
Q: Evelyn, why did you want Daisy to volunteer at JFS?
A: I wanted to help her break out of her shell a little bit, meet some new people, and do something meaningful at the same time. JFS was a perfect fit! She came home after the first day with a big smile on her face and a sparkle in her eye.
It’s one thing to hear good things from your mom, but it’s a different experience to be praised and encouraged by your supervisor. Daisy’s heading back to school feeling much more confident after her summer at JFS.
Q: Daisy, what was the best part?
A: Well, there were a few times when a parent who didn’t speak English came to pick up their supplies and needed a different diaper size than we planned for them. I speak Spanish and was able to translate. It was great to be able to do that because everyone at the Diaper Bank wants to make sure families get everything they need.
Q: What was the most surprising thing?
A: I discovered that it made me feel good to help other people. At first, I was only going to work one day a week. I wound up volunteering three days a week—Monday, Wednesday, and Friday!
Throughout the agency, volunteers are making an important impact! We want to see you in action and brag about all your hard work. Help us share the difference you are making every day—and you may be featured in the next Volunteer Voice or JFS social media post!
