JFS Names Shreya Sasaki New Vice President of Programs & Services and Gina Mittal as Senior Director of Family & Community Services


SAN DIEGO – Jewish Family Service of San Diego (JFS) has promoted Shreya Sasaki to Vice President of Programs and Services. This newly created position will play a critical role in shaping and advancing the JFS mission, ensuring continued program excellence, and driving additional innovation to address evolving community needs. Shreya will be an advocate for programming, internally and externally, emphasizing JFS’s commitment to empowering people of all faiths and backgrounds to overcome challenges and build more stable, secure lives. Along with our Senior Program leaders and dedicated staff, Shreya’s role will support continuing to address complex issues such as homelessness, the lack of affordable housing, food insecurity, raising a family, and the challenges of aging. She will collaborate with our internal Diversity and Belonging Council’s emerging priority of building systems that improve the employee experience.

Shreya was formerly JFS Senior Director of Family and Community Services, Gina Mittal has been promoted to this position. Gina will oversee a breadth of JFS initiatives, including refugee resettlement, positive parenting education and other JFS programs that strengthen families. Mittal will integrate her 15 years of nonprofit sector work experience, including six years at JFS, along with master’s degrees in both social work and public health, to improve family self-sufficiency and positive outcomes. In her last six years at JFS, Gina led counseling/case management efforts and our COVID-19 response by working closely with clinical and case management staff to ensure clients continued to receive mental health services and increased financial assistance, during that stressful time period. And, in collaboration with other staff, Gina launched the Breaking Down Barriers and Family Support Liaison Program. 

Prior to joining JFS, Sasaki served as Chief Operating Officer at Mission Driven Finance, a startup impact investing firm focused on advancing economic opportunity. She has also held key roles with Kaiser Permanente, working as Director of Finance for health and hospital operations from 2016 to 2017 and senior community benefit manager from 2010 to 2016.  Sasaki currently serves as a board officer for MAAC and formerly sat on the Carmel Valley Community Planning Board. She is a LEAD San Diego graduate. Sasaki received her Bachelor of Arts in economics and organizational studies from the University of Michigan and her Master of Public Health from the University of California Los Angeles.  

Mittal brings 15 years of work experience in the nonprofit sector, her experiences ranged from providing therapeutic services to children and families, program management, to conducting research, and overseeing grantees as a funder. Mittal earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from American University and her Master of Social Work and Master of Public Health from Boston University.
