 Couple dancingWith daily exercise classes, art classes, games, cultural programs, and live entertainment, the College Avenue Older Adult Center is a great place to spend your day. Meet new friends while learning in our Cyber Cafe, exercise in the many different class offerings, watch a newly released movie on our large screen, and enjoy good conversations over hot kosher lunches served daily. Full of warmth and energy, you’re sure to leave the Center with a smile.


Salad Bar Now Open 4 Days a Week!College Avenue Older Adult Center Salad Bar
As part of the College Avenue Older Adult Center’s philosophy to promote healthy aging among older adults, the Center offers a soup and salad bar as a lunchtime meal choice! This lunchtime alternative is funded by a grant from the County of San Diego, Aging & Independence Services.

The soup and salad bar is now available Mondays through Thursdays, and includes all the fixings for a College Avenue Older Adult Center Participant at Salad Barnutritious and flavorful mid-day lighter meal: soup, salad greens, fruit, vegetables, dressings, protein, and bread. With the salad bar, the Center is able to offer both a hot and cold kosher lunch option as well as fresh produce, seasonal menu items, and vegetarian meal options. The soup and salad bar also is available to go.

Cozy Café
A coffee and light snack cart in a relaxing café style atmosphere. WiFi available.

Fitness Classes
Tai Chi, Yoga, Ballroom Dancing, Line Dancing, Low Impact Aerobics, Feeling Fit (Balance, Toning, and Strengthening), Arthritis Exercise, Walking Group, and more.

Celebrate Lunch in the Sukkah
Monday, September 27 • 12:00pm lunch; 12:30pm entertainment

Sukkot is one of three harvest festivals in the Jewish Calendar. Thousands of years ago, our ancestors had to make temporary shelters in the desert. In keeping with the spirit of the holiday, we will be eating lunch on the beautiful patio under the Sukkah. Enjoy a festive lunch and entertainment from Yochanan Sebastian Winston, who will delight us with a lively concert of Jewish music.

Hours and Fees
The College Avenue Older Adult Center is open Monday through Friday from 8:00am–Poker Club4:00pm. Program fees vary from class to class.

Round-trip transportation is available to participants living in the surrounding area for a suggested donation of $2.50 each way. Call us to reserve your ride in advance.

Lunch is offered daily at 12:00pm for a suggested donation of $3.50 for members and $6 for non-members.

For older Americans, falls are the #1 injury that can
alter your way of life. These falls can cause a hip, leg,
or pelvic fractures and have debilitating effects.
Join Joanne Price, gerontologist, author and host of
Elder Talk Radio on AM 1170 on Sunday mornings.
Joanne will present ways to keep us safe in our home
and out in the community.

Project Wildlife
Tuesday, August 24 at 12:45 pm
This non-profit organization visits
community groups all over San Diego.
Their purpose is to educate others about conservation
and wildlife care. They will be bringing a variety of wild
animals for us to visit with. (Don’t worry, they are not
too big). These animals were injured and Project
Wildlife now takes care of them and helps them to
maintain their lives. We will get an up close and
personal look at these fascinating creatures and hear
stories about their lifestyles and habitats.

The Messiah in the Hebrew Bible
With Dr. Yeduda Shabatay, from San Diego
State University Department of Religious Studies
Thursday, August 26 at 12:45 pm
Dr. Shabatay will present the origin of the term,
“messiah” as the title of Israel’s Kings and its
development over the centuries. He will also speak
about Elijah’s role, according to the profit Malachi,
“before the terrible day of the Lord.”
Dr. Shabatay received his doctorate in Hebrew
Literature, Bible, and History from the Jewish
Theological Seminary of America in New York. He
has a teaching degree from his native Hungary and a
Master of Jurisprudence from Hebrew University in
Jerusalem. Currently, he is on the faculty of San
Diego State University, where he is
