Dwight Gooden and Darryl Strawberry
Dwight “Doc” Gooden and Darryl Strawberry are two of MLB’s most legendary players from the 1980s. Gooden’s pitching prowess and Strawberry’s hard-hitting home runs revitalized the New York Mets and led them to a World Series Championship in 1986.
The dynamic duo earned national recognition at every turn – Gooden boasts four All-Star Selections, a National Rookie of the Year Award, the NL Cy Young Award, and is a four-time World Series champion, while Strawberry holds two Silver Slugger Awards, a National Rookie of the Year award, eight consecutive All-Star Selections, and is a four-time World Series champion.
Gooden and Strawberry’s illustrious baseball careers were also riddled with highly public battles with addiction. Their promising trajectories in the League were cut short by substance abuse, and at times it threatened their lives. Both New York Mets Hall of Famers now help others who struggle with addiction and spread a message of hope, recovery, and healing.
