FEATURED SPEAKERS
Dwight “Doc” Gooden and Darryl Strawberry

Dwight “Doc” Gooden and Darryl Strawberry are two of MLB’s most legendary players from the 1980s. Gooden’s pitching prowess and Strawberry’s hard-hitting home runs revitalized the New York Mets and led them to a World Series Championship in 1986.

Despite earning national recognition at every turn and being four-time World Series champions, Gooden and Strawberry’s illustrious baseball careers were also riddled with highly public battles with addiction. Their promising trajectories in the League were cut short by substance use—at times even threatening their lives. Both New York Mets Hall of Famers now help others who struggle with addiction and spread a message of hope, recovery, and healing.

Join Gooden and Strawberry for a candid conversation as they discuss their personal experiences with addiction and help reduce the stigma associated with behavioral health. While many of our neighbors are struggling with behavioral health issues that have only been magnified by the pandemic, Jewish Family Service remains committed to serving our community every step of the way, from Response to Recovery.
