counseling and family support
At Jewish Family Service, we’re committed to you and your family. When a family is faced with a mental illness, when a spouse is struggling with domestic abuse, we’re here every step of the way. We’re dedicated to strengthening families. It’s what we do best.
When you call, our JFS Intake Specialist will answer any questions you have and will conduct an initial assessment. They will help you choose the services to best fit your needs and connect you with outside resources when appropriate.
Programs and Services
Behavioral Health Awareness
- Our Behavioral Health Committee of dedicated volunteers is devoted to
educating the community about mental illness and decreasing the stigma
associated with it.
Bikkur Holim Friendly Visitor - Friendly volunteers bring joy, conversation, community connection, and friendship to isolated Jewish older adults and homebound/ill individuals.
Breast Cancer Case Management - Our Breast Cancer Case Manager, funded by Susan G. Komen for the Cure, is dedicated to offering specialized assistance and support during the difficult and overwhelming period after receiving a breast cancer diagnosis. The case manager works with each client in their own home or community, based on individual needs.
Counseling - We’re here to help you sort out the problem areas in your life. And to help you find the energy and strength to solve them. Our professional counselors will help you through the tough times.
Hand Up Youth Food Pantry - Distributes food throughout San Diego County with a case manager on site to provide necessary referrals and resources for clients with additional needs.
JFS Hand Up Loan Program - We offer several interest-free loans for small business and personal needs to members of the San Diego Jewish Community.
Jewish BIGPals - Jewish volunteer mentors serve as role models and friends to Jewish children from single parent and non-traditional families.
Mood Disorder - One out of every 10 Americans suffers from a mood disorder. And many of them don’t come forward to seek help. Our counselors are specially trained in working with mood disorders and offer both individual and group therapy.
Patient Advocacy - Patient Advocates work with individuals living in either a 24-hour psychiatric hospital or a board and care facility to ensure all of their rights are being respected.
Project SARAH - There’s never an excuse for domestic abuse. We offer a safe, confidential place for individuals experiencing abuse to come forward and seek help.
Support & Psychotherapy Groups - Support groups offer a certain emotional comfort and moral support that individual therapy can’t do. We offer several support groups throughout San Diego County.
